Released in 1976, "Cool Rasta" is one of the most sought-after Heptones albums, with frequent demands for its re-release. This DVD-Audio is an updated version of the group's 1973 collection, "Book Of Rules," with two mid-seventies recordings, "Cool Rasta" and "Dreadlock," replacing the original title track and "World." Both missing sides are added to this DVD-Audio version, along with rare Jamaican mixes of their work from the period and are available for the first time in surround sound.

Unlike Immergent's Live Rock Masters collection, which is also a DualDisc package, Classic Rock Masters: Current Music isn't at all deceptive. When they say "Classic Rock Masters," they tell the truth, and it is also "current music" by these acts, so original lineups are almost nowhere to be found. That's not always a bad thing: in Lynyrd Skynyrd's case, for example:... More Johnny Van Zant has stepped in and taken Ronnie Van Zant's place and the band rocks pretty hard and writes decent material. Likewise, Queensr˙che can still tear it up; Eddie Money has always been Eddie Money, always excellent in other words, and .38 Special has been trying to nail the pop hit since "Hold on Loosely." While they've not succeeded, it doesn't mean they aren't writing and recording great songs.

Then And Now - featuring Johnny Van Zant sitting in for his dearly departed brother, Ronnie, might curl your britches. Former Outlaws guitarist Hughie Thomasson, along with guitarist Rickey Medlocke, background vocalists Dale Krantz Rossington and Carol Chase, and a flurry of drummers and assorted players join original members Gary Rossington, Billy Powell and Leon Wilkeson for a collection that mixes a little of the old with the new - hence the title of the CD. Then And Now actually draws from three previous Skynyrd titles from the 90s - Live From Steel Town, Edge Of Forever and Twenty. No surprises here. Lynyrd Skynyrd is the definitive no-frills Southern Rock band. Then And Now captures the spirit of a band that shaped a movement, split for a decade, then reunited to take over Rock-n-Roll once more. This live disc features a "Simple Man" live video and an array of hits that have spanned and defined a generation.
